Artist Statement
Michael Kessler's vision has developed slowly and methodically over many years in the studio. Kessler's current nature-based abstractions evolved from earlier explorations into landscape. The work, as it is today, constitutes the sum of many hard-won discoveries that emerged in the midst of an ocean of experimentation. Setting up contrasts in all variety of material including color, texture and intensity is the proecess of what manifests into Kessler's signature paintings. "Nature is my model and transformation is my subject matter."

Kessler's Awards include the Rome Prize for Painting, American Academy in Rome in 1990, and a Pollock/Krasner Award in Painting in 1992. Kessler was part of the Whitney Independent Study Program at the Whitney Museum of Art, NY. His work has been widely exhibited and established in the US and abroad. Kessler has been reviewed by national art critics, inlcuding Richard Speers, in over seventy pulbications, including Art in America, Artforum, ARTnews and featured in Architectureal Digest. Furthermore, Kessler is included in thirty plus museums and fifty corporate collections.
